My name is Julia Luz Betancourt.
I am a multimedia journalist, editor and audience engagement expert. I cover activism, social movements and abuses of power.
Writing is my first love. My work has been published in YES! Magazine, Truthout, GEN-ZiNE, Latin Times, Scheerpost and Z Network. My stories center how the most marginalized people are impacted by issues. Right now, I’m focused on how these communities are being targeted by the federal government.
In 2023, I picked up a camera for the first time. My goal is to humanize the people who devote their lives to fighting for a just future. I’ve photographed protests, strikes, and shot editorials for magazines.
I am a creative who loves finding several ways to tell a story. I’ve worked on audience teams for global and national media, using compelling visuals to grow and more deeply engage audiences.
