Julia Luz Betancourt is an independent multimedia journalist and editor covering activism and grassroots movements. Today, she is the associate editor at YES! Media and a member of BreakThrough News' national grassroots media network.

Julia's reporting has appeared in various media outlets, including YES! Magazine, Truthout, the Latin Times, LA Progressive, GEN-ZiNE, Scheerpost and Z Network. She has also appeared as a guest on Rising Up With Sonali, a broadcast program televised on Free Speech TV and aired on independent radio stations nationwide.

Julia believes journalism can bring about justice and works to amplify narratives that are underreported. In 2022, she published a zine on injustice in education after investigating food insecurity at her alma mater. She will soon launch her own newsletter, ANTAGONiSTIC.

Julia received a degree in Journalism and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies from St. John’s University.
